Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a learning enhancement program designed to organize and improve the ways in which students prepare for class outside of class. SI is attached to a course to provide students with a systematic and disciplined approach for processing the subject material assigned by the professor. The SI leader attends the course to keep up with the subject content being presented and to model effective student practices and attitudes

SI Will Help You:
  • Learn useful strategies to study more efficiently and focus on the most important concepts of the course
  • Become more confident about the subject and receive a different perspective on the material from a peer who succeeded in the course
  • Increase efficiency in test preparation and test taking
  • Receive assistance in setting up homework problems and practice problems assigned with guidance from SI Leaders
  • Learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together
SI Leaders:
  • Attend all lectures for the course and take notes, do the assigned homework and readings
  • Have taken the class previously and received at least a B+
  • Are trained in group facilitation and learning techniques
  • Are supervised by a trained professional staff member from the Academic & Career Planning Center (The SI Coordinator)
