Departure Checklists


  1. Confirm your enrollment by making your admissions deposit
  2. Apply for your visa or begin your SEVIS transfer process
  3. Apply for on-campus housing or research off-campus housing options
  4. Submit your immunization record to Student Health Service by completing this form and mailing it to Student Health
  5. Choose your Arrival Date and Submit your travel arrangement form to the Center


  1. Bring a valid passport
  2. A certificate of eligibility for an F-1 or J-1 visa (an I-20 or DS-2019, respectively) 
  3. An F-1 or J-1 visa stamp
  4. Your letter of admission form University of South Dakota
  5. Proof of funding
  6. Cash, traveler's checks, or any international bank card; $800-$1,000 in U.S. currency for travel emergencies and settling-in expenses. (Problems with flight connections could make it necessary for you to spend the night in a hotel, which could cost $100 or more. Try to prepare for all unexpected expenses associated with international travel.)
  7. Phone numbers and e-mail addresses of emergency contacts at home and in the United States
