Students at USD

The University of South Dakota welcomes people from all backgrounds, embodying the values of diversity and inclusive excellence in its curricula, programs, policies, and facilities. USD appeals to students, faculty, and staff with a range of experiences, heritages, and cultures. While celebrating its history as a uniquely South Dakotan institution, USD especially values indigenous and international perspectives. The university is committed both to a global outlook and to education and research serving Native Americans.

What is Inclusive Excellence?

Inclusive excellence (IE) is the recognition that an institution's success is dependent on how well it values, engages and includes the rich diversity of students, staff, faculty, administrators and alumni constituents. This comprehensive approach requires a fundamental transformation of the institution by embedding and practicing IE in every effort, aspect, and level of the university.
