Winter 1995-1996, north of Vermillion, South Dakota. Soil from Fall plowing on the Vermillion River floodplain blows into drifts and fills the ditches. Drifts are often 2-3 feet deep. Sometimes in Eastern South Dakota on windy winter days, the sunny sky fills with blowing topsoil and the sky turns dark.
