Suvankar Ghosh, Ph.D.
Suvankar Ghosh is an
assistant professor of quantitative
methods and information
systems at the Beacom School of
Business who spent 12 years in
the computer industry, holding
senior technical and managerial
positions. Using cutting-edge
theory from various disciplines
such as operations, economics,
finance and information
systems, Ghosh hopes to solve business problems and
improve business decision-making.
His research focuses on three interrelated streams: valuation
of investments in technology using new methodologies such
as Real Options; strategic decision-making models; and
adoption and diffusion of innovations in technology. The
overall purpose of these streams is to strengthen and improve
decision-making by managers as they invest in strategic
information and manufacturing technologies for competitive
advantage under conditions of uncertainty and risk.
His research efforts have led to three top-tier journal
papers, two in operational research and one in information
systems, published in the
European Journal of Operational
Research
and
Journal of Organizational Computing and
Electronic Commerce.
I am particularly interested in bridging academic
theory with practice,” Ghosh stated. “I have a strong
interest in ensuring that the academic research we produce
is relevant to industry and something that practitioners
can actually use.”
Ghosh is well-positioned to do this type of practitioner-
relevant research, given his long industry experience
and knowledge combined with his use of the most
rigorous research models and methodologies. A veteran
of the computer industry, Ghosh brings business-world
experience to his research endeavors, having worked in
major Fortune 500 companies such as Digital Equipment
Corporation and Honeywell.
Ghosh received a Ph.D. from Kent State University and
an M.S. from Northeastern University.

as it applies to ethics and positive
relationships at work.
Since her arrival at USD in
2009,
Verbos, assistant professor
of management in the Beacom
School of Business, has had three publications; two in
Journal of Management Education
and one in
Equality,
Diversity, and Inclusion: an International Journal
.
According to Verbos, those three publications have
successfully advanced understanding of Native American
perspectives in management literature. “The study that
crosses both streams is about Native American values and
how such values could enhance management education,”
she explained. “I am particularly pleased with the
publication in the
Journal of Management Education.
Verbos said her research advances inclusion. “As a
faculty member of the Management Doctoral Student
Association of the Ph.D. Project, which was started by
KPMG as a way to diversify corporate America, this
research is very important to me,” she explained. “The
project has been very successful with African American
and Latino American professors, but Native American
professors are still the most underrepresented minority.”
Verbos received her Ph.D. in Management Science
from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2009.
She had a 17-year career practicing corporate, banking
and real estate law in Wisconsin and Michigan. Verbos is
an enrolled member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi
Indians and serves on the Mno-Bmadsen board creating
non-gaming business enterprises.
