Outstanding Faculty Award for Distinguished Service:
Kathy Jorgensen, Department of Nursing faculty member
Professor Kathy Jorgensen has been an active member of the USD Athletic
Advisory Board and an advisor at USD for the South Dakota Student
Nurses Association in Vermillion. She has also served as an accrediting
site advisor for the National League for Nursing. Professor Jorgensen
stresses the importance of giving back to the community by encouraging
her students to participate in raising funds for community projects and
providing physical assistance through volunteerism to many community
organizations. In the summer months, she volunteers at a respite care camp
in South Dakota for disabled children.
Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence:
Dona Kennealley, Ed.D., Addiction Studies chair
Professor Dona Kennealley’s leadership, vision and tireless efforts have moved the
addiction studies department from a one-degree program to a multiple-degree
department that includes an on-campus B.S. program, undergraduate and graduate
online certificate programs, online B.S. and graduate programs. Professor Kennealley is
currently working with a committee to develop a minor in intellectual developmental
disabilities and she recently she started the process to add the emphasis of co-occurring
disorders to the master’s program.
Beverly Kennedy, Dental Hygiene faculty member
Professor Beverly Kennedy is recognized regionally and nationally as an expert in the
subject of dental radiology and taught a radiology certification course to practicing
dental professionals and students for 30 years. Professor Kennedy teaches several
foundation courses in the dental hygiene curriculum and teaches content on oral health
to students in the P.A. program, School of Medicine and Physical Therapy Program. She
has provided fluoride varnish application training to Head Start Coordinators across the
state of South Dakota who take this service back to their individual head start programs.
