We offer:
Major: B.A. and B.S. in Biology
For both these degrees, you can select one of two specializations:
- Molecular Biology and Physiology-a focus on both the cellular and physiological aspect of biology.
Recommended for students interested in careers in biomedical and basic research, physiology, cell biology, molecular biology, biotechnology and the health professions. - Ecology/Evolution-a focus on ecological and evolutionary relationships of organisms.
Recommended for students interested in education, ecology, evolution, systematics, conservation biology, wildlife biology and/or other areas of biology.
See the Biology major degree requirements.
Minor: Biology
You'll take a core of courses in the Biology curriculum (BIOL 151, 153*) that provides an introduction to the major areas of biology. You may also elect to take certain courses offered by the School of Medicine. Beyond the core curriculum, you'll take courses that are of particular interest to you and that may lead to careers in the applied health sciences, conservation biology, agriculture, applied biology and other fields.
With a degree in biology, you'll also be nationally competitive for graduate programs. Both areas of emphasis serve students interested in pursuing interdisciplinary careers, such as public policy, pharmaceutical development and sales, and bioethics.
*This requirement was previously a four-semester series (BIOL 161-164). For details, see our Curriculum Change page.
