We offer:

All graduate students working toward the completion of the master's degree in Speech Language Pathology (SLP) or the Doctoral Degree in Audiology must meet the academic and clinical practicum requirements for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence in their area of emphasis by the end of their degree program. When you leave our program, you'll be an academically, clinically, and ethically prepared professionals qualified for entry into your chosen profession.

All graduate students are required to pass a comprehensive examination in the final semester of their graduate study. The Communication Sciences and Disorders faculty will determine the content, form, and the length of the examination.

Admissions

Admission into the graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology requires:

  • baccalaureate degree in communication sciences and disorders (or completion of core prerequisites) with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better, based on a 4.0 scale, in all undergraduate courses as well as in the communication disorders major
  • three letters of recommendation
  • GRE test scores
  • official transcripts
  • personal statement

No minimum GRE test score required for admission; this score is considered along with the other application materials. Applications are accepted for both fall and spring entry into the SLP M.A .program; the Au.D. program accepts applications only for fall entry. Application deadlines are February 1 for fall entry and October 15 for spring entry. The Distance M.A. Program in SLP is a three-year cohort.

Students accepted into the graduate programs must also undergo a criminal background check through Verified Credentials prior to matriculation. Information regarding this background check will be sent to those students accepted into the graduate programs in the acceptance packet. Graduate students in speech-language pathology and audiology are expected to possess the prerequisite characteristics, knowledge, and skills necessary for success in the program and practice in the professions.

Students who are applying to the Distance M.A. in SLP should clearly indicate "Distance SLP" at the top of the application.

International Students

International applicants must meet the criteria listed above. In addition, they must complete the TOEFL-IBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test) and pass with an overall score of 79 or higher, and a total score of 26 or higher on the spoken English subtest of the TOEFL-IBT. International students who do not have access to the TOEFL-IBT may take the TOEFL paper- or computer-based tests and pass with an overall score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test); however, they must also take the Test of Spoken English (TSE) and pass with a score of 50 or higher. The ASHA requirements may be waived for international students
