Breggren-Stewart Scholarship - Journalism Specialization

Preference will be given to candidates who are majoring in Contemporary Media & Journalism with a declared specialization in Journalism and who are good academic students.

Norma Lewis Brown Scholarship - Journalism Specialization

For Contemporary Media and Journalism students with a preference for those students in  journalism or journalistic arts. First preference is given to women students.

Jim Burt Memorial Scholarship - Athlete/Broadcast Journalism
  1. Students who are athletes. This preference will be broadly interpreted by the committee, to include male or female students involved in intercollegiate or intramural sports.
  2. Students who are planning a career in broadcast journalism.
Joseph Floyd Memorial Scholarship - Broadcast Interest

Having expressed an interest in a career in the field of broadcasting.

Paul Friggens Memorial Scholarship - Junior or Senior

CMJ students who are involved in extra-curricular activities and demonstrate leadership qualities and resourcefulness.

E.G. Trotzig Memorial Scholarship - Advertising or PR Specializations

Clearly demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for university activities in the area of advertising and public relations (such as American Advertising Federation or PRSSA), and indicate the field of Advertising/PR as a career choice.

Publication Board Scholarship - Volante Staff

Supports full-time students interested in journalism and active on the Volante, the student newspaper at USD. With the exception of those receiving Neuharth Scholarships, any undergraduate student, regardless of major, who has served on the Volante staff for at least one semester is eligible to apply for this scholarship. These applications are available from the Freedom Forum Offices.

Al Neuharth Excellence in Journalism Scholarship

Available to high school seniors who will work on the student newspaper, the Volante, and are talented in print journalism.

  1. Full in-state tuition and fees (higher amounts are possible for those who qualify).
  2. Possibly renewable for four years.
  3. Finalists will be asked to interview on campus.
