College of Arts & Sciences Languages, Linguistics & Philosophy

Overview

The study of a second language is a valuable asset for every university student regardless of career goals and personal aspirations. Knowledge of other languages and cultures makes one a more informed citizen and may provide a marketable skill.

We offer programs in:

Our course work is broad and diverse and supplements any graduate degree well. The immediate goal of taking Spanish or German course work is to develop the students' proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as culture of a foreign country.

Students wishing to satisfy the 14-hour language requirement for the Bachelor of Arts degree may do so in any of these languages and may also elect to minor in French, German, or Spanish. Teaching majors and teaching minors are also offered in French, German, and Spanish.

Language Grads at Work

In an increasingly multicultural world, graduates proficient in a second or third language are sought after by employers in most industries. Language grads are at work in education, government, business, social services, healthcare and many other fields.
