To My Students:

Public service is the noblest of the professions. To serve well, one needs the background to know, the vision to see, and the will to do. The keys to a happy and worthwhile life are participation, a concern for others, and a goal of making the world a better place in which to live. Think of the possibilities!

Without doubt, William O. Farber's distinguished career in political science at The University of South Dakota influenced many young lives, and provided the impetus for students to enter public service and to make a contribution -- whether on the highest levels of the state and national governments or in the smallest South Dakota communities.

Doc Farber's students always came first. He felt that what young South Dakotans needed most was the opportunity to travel in the U.S. and abroad and to accept internships which would enrich their backgrounds and broaden their horizons.

You can help keep Doc Farber's dreams alive through your support to the Farber Fund. Fund contributions advance and strengthen the Department of Political Science in its promotion of academically excellent student programs and activities, public service, and civic leadership.

Your contributions can be split according to your wishes for the uses authorized by our Bylaws and the Executive Board.

  • Farber Fund No. 1 is the original fund that is used for student travel and internships.
  • Farber Fund No. 2 is used for salary augmentation and scholarships as donors may request.
  • Farber Fund No. 3 is an endowment fund for scholarships and was established as a result of the July 8, 2000 fundraiser.
