Research interests: risk and resiliency factors among OEF/OIF veterans (particularly the mediating and moderating mechanisms explaining the comorbidty between PTSD and substance use); military sexual trauma; alcohol related problems among college students; and pathological gambling. Dr. Gaher's clinical orientation is primarily cognitive-behavioral. Her preferred treatment approaches include cognitive therapy, motivational interviewing, exposure therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. More recent therapy interests include acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and integrating existential psychotherapies into CBT models.

Research interests: role of affect regulation in marijuana use and use-related problems; broader interests include attitude structure, motivation, emotion, and dimensional models of affect dysregulation. Dr. Simons also has an interest in applied statistics and research methods. His clinical interests include cognitive-behavioral and motivational enhancement interventions.

Research interests: cultural competency and assessment/service delivery, and child-family disabilities and resiliency. Dr. Skillman's theoretical orientation is integrative, and developmental-contextual in approach. Her current research and clinical interests focus upon: (1) cross-cultural issues in assessment; (2) child-family risk, resiliency, and access/use of resources; and (3) affect regulation in the family context. Dr. Skillman utilizes both qualitative and quantitative approaches in research and clinical work.
