COURSE POLICY AND REQUIREMENTS
GENERAL BIOLOGY I
FALL SEMESTER 1996
CRITERIA FOR GRADING:
There will be a possible total of 600 points for the course. Students earning 90-100% of the 600 points will not receive less than an A for a final course grade; those earning 80-90% will not receive less than a B; those earning 70-79% will not receive less that a C; and those earning 60-69% will not receive less than a D.
The lecture portion of the course will account for 66.7% (400 points) of the possible 600 points. Three one-hour multiple choice lecture examinations, each of 100 points , will be given during the semester. These examinations will be taken on the dates given on the lecture schedule handout. The final lecture examination of 100 points will be taken on the date given on the lecture schedule handout.
The laboratory portion of the course will account for 33.3% (200 points) of the possible 600 points. The breakdown of the 200 points will be given in the laboratory portion of the course.
LECTURE MAKE-UP EXAMINATIONS:
One day has been assigned for making up lecture examinations regardless of the examination(s) missed. Make-up examinations (essay type ) will be given on Wednesday, December 11, 1996 at 7:00 PM in Room 158 , Churchill-Haines Laboratories . If an examination is not made up, a grade of zero will be given for the missing score.
BIOL 151 COURSE POLICY & REQUIREMENTS -
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Attendance to all labs is required , and there will be no make-up labs. If you are not able to attend your assigned lab, then make arrangements to attend another lab during the same week.
Attendance to all lectures is absolutely necessary if you want to do well in this course. It is also necessary to take notes during the lectures to have a complete understanding of the material presented and to prepare adequately for the lecture examinations. The material presented in the lectures is the basis for the questions on the lecture examinations. Therefore, students are expected to attend all lectures, although roll will not be taken. Copies of the lecture examinations given in Fall semester 1995 and in Spring semester 1996 are in the Lab Manuals.
NOTES OF IMPORTANCE:
The four biology professors lecuring in this course are Drs. Allen Johnson, Karen Koster, Kenneth Renner, and Cliff Summers. Ms. Kathy Rasmussen will be the laboratory coordinator and Dr. Johnson will be the course coordinator for the fall semester. Questions concerning the laboratory should be directed to Ms. Rasmussen and questions concerning the lecture, test results, and grading to Dr. Johnson.
The offices of the lecturers in Churchill-Haines Laboratories are:
Dr. Johnson - Room 191A
Dr. Koster - Room 182
Dr. Renner - Room 188
Dr. Summers - Room 178
Office hours will be posted by each professor.
