Accounting Program Overview

Mission

The mission of the Accounting Programs at The University of South Dakota Beacom School of Business is to provide quality professional education in an environment that promotes critical thinking, fosters the exchange of ideas among scholars, and contributes value to the practice of accounting.

Faculty

The accounting faculty bring to our classrooms a wealth of teaching expertise and knowledge in the field based on professional experience. Our faculty members are business experts, innovative teachers and dedicated mentors who instruct students on business methods and then apply their teaching through school-sponsored, student-run organizations.

Student Organizations

Students gain hands-on experience, meet new friends, and share some fun outside the classroom through participation in student organizations. We encourage students to actively participate in student organizations as an excellent way to develop leadership skills and engage in experiential learning.

Scholarships

The Beacom School of Business awards more than $200,000 in awards and scholarships each year. These funds are made available through the generous support of alumni and friends.

Arthur A. Volk Symposium

The Arthur A. Volk Symposium is sponsored annually by the Beacom School of Business to bring together students, academicians, and business leaders for discussion of current topics of interest. The Symposium is named in honor of Art Volk, former Professor of Accounting and Director of the Business Placement Office, who taught at the Beacom School of Business from 1948-1984.

Summer Accounting Institute

The Summer Accounting Institute for high-school participants provides educational, career exploration, professional and social aspects of the accounting profession. Field trips to a public accounting firm and other well-known businesses, social and team activities are incorporated throughout the Institute.

Study Abroad

The Beacom School of Business's international program offers you the opportunity to live and study abroad. Business courses taught in many international universities are offered in English so business school students around the world can participate in these courses. You gain both academic experiences and a global perspective on universal issues.
