Professional Profile
As an Account Executive, I manage shopper marketing and consumer promotion programs from the planning and development through execution and post-performance review phases. I serve as the direct liaison between the client, our internal creative and planning teams, and all third party vendors. Our programs execute at all major retailers and drive purchase instore. My client roster includes Unilever, Bacardi, Coppertone and PEOPLE Magazine.
Internship Leads to Job Offer
During my internship at Target, I completed a 10-wk training program that exposed me to all areas of the retail store. I shadowed each department's manager, planned and executed a program to improve an inefficiency I recognized within the store, and also served as the manager on duty who handled all day-to-day issues. I was offered a position with Target. Even though I passed on the position, having the experience and being able to intelligently answer numerous situational questions in the job interviews that followed gave me a competitive advantage that earned enormous recognition from my future employers.
How Did Beacom Prepare Me For Success?
The marketing professors that taught my upper level Marketing classes conducted class projects that were extremely relevant to the work I do at the agency I work for. Also, since I was involved in the Honors Program, the professors that developed and lead my senior thesis, helped me gain relevant marketing experience. Being able to show examples of these projects and explain what I learned during my interview for my current position showed that although I was coming fresh out of college and didn't have previous experience, I did have a solid understanding of business and marketing.
I was heavily involved in SIFE (student organization).. SIFE also turned out to be an excellent networking resource. Through SIFE, I met my current employer. Lastly, the time I spent abroad in Greece and Australia helped me realize that I could move anywhere, and quickly adapt to new situations.
The relationships I made while at Beacom are something that I will always be grateful for. The school has an energy about it that is unique and contagious. Many professors served as personal mentors that gave me unbiased guidance which helped me get to where I am today.
Advice to Students Considering Beacom School of Business
Take comfort in the fact that you are receiving an excellent education, for a great price. I received an education that is just as good, if not better, than many other recent graduates my age—but a big difference is that I am not swimming in college loans, meaning that I will be able to save and invest in a future at a faster rate than many other grads.
