freshman/sophomore requirements
Students planning to major in accounting, economics, finance, health services administration, management, or marketing begin by completing the liberal learning requirements of the University and the prerequisites for acceptance into their chosen major.
Business students are not eligible to enroll in 300/400 level business classes from USD until they have met the criteria for admission to the majors. (Some exceptions are permitted through the Waiver Program. Check with your advisor to determine eligibility.)

Investigations--The Human Experience Students complete a minimum of 3 credits from either the Humanities or Fine Arts (See University Core)

Electives Electives may be from any area on campus. Suggestions include working toward a minor or taking CSC 105 as well as many others depending on student interest. |

Required Testing-- All students must take the Proficiency Exam after completing 48 credit hours.

Investigations--The Natural World Students complete a 2-semester laboratory science sequence. (Options exist for 6 - 10 credits. Most business students choose 8 credit sequences.) (See University Core) |

Integrations--The IdEA Program Interdisciplinary Education and Action Students complete two courses (6 credit hours) designated by the student's theme choice. Students must have 60 credits completed before enrolling.

Investigations--Aesthetic Experience Students select from the Fine Arts list (See The Human Experience above) or from an additional list, at least 3 credits of Aesthetic Experience. (See University Core) |

* If another advanced composition course is taken instead of ENGL 205, a senior research paper is required.
**The Mathematics course required for admission to the Beacom School of Business is MATH 121 Survey of Calculus. A substitution is permitted for MATH 123 Calculus 1. Other mathematics courses may be required by the Mathematics Department as prerequisites to MATH 121 or MATH 123. The initial mathematics course is determined in accordance with the Board of Regent's placement regulations. STAT 281 or MATH 281 may be substituted for BADM 220 Business Statistics.
