undergraduate programs
Entering students who choose business as their academic interest are immediately admitted to the Beacom School of Business as general business students. When a student completes the pre-major classes and meets the grade point average and credit hour requirements, the student elects one of the 6 specific majors (and minor if desired) offered at Beacom. (See menu links to Freshman/Sophomore Requirements and Admission to the B-School Majors.)
Students can choose one of the following majors in the Beacom School of Business: accounting, economics, finance, health services administration, management, or marketing. If choosing a management major, students have the option of completing a specialization in human resource management. Information concerning this specialization is available under the link for the management major.
The Beacom School of Business offers the following minors to students in non-business majors: business administration, economics, health services administration, and entrepreneurship.
Beginning with the 2007 catalog of entry, Beacom School of Business students have the option of completing minors in Entrepreneurship and Legal Studies through the School of Business. (See menu link at left.) Business students may also select minors from other colleges and schools at USD.
Students majoring in accounting, economics, finance, health services administration, management, or marketing will earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (B.B.A).
Each of the six majors offered through the Beacom School of Business begins with general education requirements and prerequisites to our programs. All students must complete a minimum of 18 credits of General Education including at least one course from each of these areas Written Communication, Oral Communication, Natural Science, Social Science, Humanities, and Mathematics within their first 48 credits. At least 30 credits of General Education must be completed within the first 64 credits. If students do not meet the standards for admission to ENGL 101 Composition or MATH 102 College Algebra, they are required to complete Pre-General Education courses as their first priority and be completed within the first 30 credits attempted..
