Mathilda Geppert Toddler Program
The USD Children's Center Toddler Program is designed to accommodate children between the ages of 12 months and 36 months. The Toddler Program is housed in three classrooms, has approximately 10 children enrolled in each room, and each classroom is directed by an experienced teacher with the aid of USD student childcare assistants.
Using the Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers, the Toddler Program is designed around the growing child; child directed and child centered. Children are provided opportunities which include water play, tactile play, books, blocks, toys, puzzles, musical instruments and a variety of art media for experimentation.
With the choices offered, the children are encouraged to use all of their senses of discovery to master and integrate skills and language. Special care is placed on modeling social awareness and to acknowledge and respect emotions. At the Children's Center, toddler-aged children learn to make new friends and begin the process of separation.
Children in this age group eat family style meals in the dining area. As with the infant program we honor parent choices and work with parents and child's development to assist in potty training.
The Center has a fenced playground specifically designed for toddler age children with access from each room.
