Seasonal Flu Vaccination Update

The University of South Dakota is partnering with Sanford Clinic Vermillion/USD Student Health to provide students with seasonal flu shots.

The two main manufacturers who provide flu vaccine to South Dakota Immunization Program, Sanofi Pasteur and Novartis, expect to complete delivery of all remaining doses on a schedule similar to a normal flu season. The South Dakota Department of Health understands the desire to receive the seasonal flu vaccination early this year; however, the manufacturers could not anticipate all the unprecedented challenges of producing two flu vaccines in one year. This situation has delayed anticipated delivery timelines for seasonal flu vaccine. Sanford Clinic Vermillion is waiting to receive additional shipments of vaccinations and an additional flu shot clinic will be scheduled once the vaccine is available.  Announcements about seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccination clinics will be made on the portal.

Remember:
  • Don't panic. More seasonal flu vaccine is on the way.
  • Eventually, there should be enough of both seasonal and H1N1 vaccine for anyone who wants it.
  • Keep checking with your clinic about vaccine availability.
  • It is not critical to get your seasonal flu vaccination early. Don't worry if you can't get it right away. Remember that people usually get their seasonal flu shot from October through February.
