Housing Exemptions & Contract Releases

Requests for Housing Exemption or Contract Release are requests to not have to live on-campus and to receive back the University Deposit. Students should complete a Housing Exemptions if they do not have a contract with University Housing. If students have a contract with University Housing, students should complete a Contract Release request.

Who?

Students who do not have a contract with University Housing.

Examples:

  • Eligible to live off-campus
  • Commuting from home
  • Participating in an approved university program
  • Leaving or graduating from USD
  • Married and/or have children
  • Fraternity/Sorority exemption
  • Significant medical/financial hardship

Who?

Students who have a contract with University Housing they want to be released from.

Examples:

  • Leaving or graduating from USD
  • Participating in an approved university program
  • Fraternity/Sorority release
  • Financial/medical hardship
  • Married and/or have children

 

How Can I Be Exempt From Living On-Campus?
 
  • Approved University Program
    Complete this exemption if you are taking part in a USD study abroad program, exchange program, or another university sponsored program that will take you away from campus - such as an externship or student-teaching.
     
  • Commuting from Home
    Complete this exemption if you are residing full time during the academic year with parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
     
  • Eligible to Live Off-Campus
    Complete this exemption if you graduated high school two or more years ago.
     
  • Financial Hardship
    You should apply for this release if you have a severe financial hardship which cannot be alleviated by the Financial Aid Office.
     
  • Fraternity/Sorority Exemption
    You should apply for this release if you are a member of a USD fraternity or sorority chapter, have a cumulative 2.20 GPA or higher by the end of Spring 2012 (summer classes do not apply), and have sophomore status with the university.
     
  • Graduating from USD
    Complete this exemption if you are graduating from USD.
     
  • Legally Married
    Complete this exemption if you are legally married. You are required to supply a copy of your marriage certificate.
     
  • Medical Hardship
    You should apply for this release if you have a serious medical problem that cannot be accommodated within the residence hall system.
     
  • Raising Dependent Children
    Complete this exemption if you are raising a dependent child or children. You are required to supply a copy of the child(ren)'s birth certificate(s).
     
  • Withdrawing from USD
    Complete this exemption if you are not returning to USD.

 

How Can I Be Released From Living On-Campus?
 
  • Approved University Program
