How do I get started?

Come to the wall during Open Climbing Hours. Trained climbing instructors will greet you and show you how to use the equipment. No previous experience is necessary and bring a friend!

What do I wear?

Wear clothing that allows you to move freely. For example, clothes should be comfortable enough to step up to the second rung of a ladder or do jumping jacks. Wear shoes that fit snuggly and lace up. Avoid shoes with open heels or toes.

Do I need a partner?

No. Anyone can boulder without a partner. Also, staff will help you pair up with other climbers who are looking to climb and belay.

What is bouldering?

Bouldering is rock climbing close enough to the ground that ropes are not needed. To help make landings safer, boulderers often use dense-foam crash pads and spotters.

What is belaying?

Belaying is securing the climber during the climb using different techniques to do so.

Get Belay Certified!

If you've wanted to learn the correct technique for securing another climber when they are using the Wellness Center's Climbing Wall, here's your opportunity. Certification takes about an hour and you'll have the confidence and know-how to safely belay a climber.
