The Dictionary for Parents of Children with Disabilities contains terminology used in the fields of testing/evaluation, early intervention, special education, medical services, therapeutic services, family supports, vocational training, independent living and guardianship.

The Dictionary for Parents of Children with Disabilities was originally developed by South Dakota Special Education Programs and is included on the Center for Disabilities website with their permission.

Please note - Center for Disabilities staff members are currently in the process of updating the Dictionary for Parents of Children with Disabilities.  We are working to remove obsolete terms and replace them with current terminology.  In addition, we are adding even more terms to provide you with more information.  Keep watching this page - the updated Dictionary for Parents of Children with Disabilities will be available soon!
