We have three positions available working with youth during our summer program. All three positions involve supervising a room of the Club and running the programs /activities for that room.
Training is provided for all positions. Position one involves using our brain based movement programs to help our Club kids improve their balance, hand eye coordination, timing/ rhythm and overall brain function. This could be beneficial experience for those majoring in occupational therapy, special education or similar.
Position two involves supervising and running fun recreational programs for boys aged 7 to 12 (like dodge ball, nature hikes, running tournaments, etc.) Knowledge of Tae Kwon Do would be helpful but is not necessary.
Position three is the same as position two but for boys aged 13 to 18. Qualifications: Energetic, reliable, caring person who is comfortable working with kids and wants a fun summer job.
35 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., depending on position hours may be slightly flexible

Life Skills Educators Position provides support and guidance to adolescent males and females ages 9-18. Adolescents referred to these programs are in crisis, dealing with addiction, and mental health diagnosis. Full and part- time positions available in Sioux Falls.

Group Care- licensed as a Group Care center for minors by the South Dakota Department of Social Services. This 32 bed facility provides short term residential serves to participants ages 9-17 years. Youth referred to the program are typically in crisis. West Farm- Department of Social Services licensed 24-hour group care program provided collaboratively with the Department of Corrections. the program has the capacity for 27 males between the ages of 14 and 17. West Farm provides housing, food, supervision, and structure in a chemically free and safe environment. Psychiatric Residential Treatment-Department of Social Services licensed 24 hour residential treatment program with capacity for 22 youth between the ages of 10 to 17 that have a qualifying mental health diagnosis. Heisler Chemical Dependency Treatment- Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse licensed facility providing comprehensive alcohol and other drug evaluations and assessments to youth and adults. New Start for Adolescent and Adult Women- Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse licensed 24- hour residential treatment programs for pregnant and parenting adolescents (age 12-18) and women (19 and above) and their children. Mothers learn to lead healthy and productive lives in a safe, structured and therapeutic environment.

Job Description The Homegrown Prosperity summer biodiesel-powered bus tour presents a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to build a grassroots renewable energy economy in rural America and reduce greenhouse gases that cause global warming. Crew members will help grassroots organizations advance public policy initiatives in the areas of clean and renewable energy, sustainable biofuels, energy efficiency, and local foods, as positive opportunities for jobs and income in rural America, as well as effective solutions to reduce greenhouse gas pollution of the atmosphere. The job entails traveling throughout the seven WORC-states region as part of a four-member team. Applicants will contract with the WORC as independent contractors for $400/week. In addition, a weekly stipend of $45/day will be provided for living expenses.
Qualifications In recruiting members of the Homegrown Prosperity crew WORC will be looking for the following characteristics, skills, knowledge, and experience: • Ability to work as part of a team and relate to people from all walks of life. • Mature and reliable; good references. • Good written and oral communication skills. • Experience in media relations and communications – written, electronic, and internet (for at least one crew member). • Ability to start by June 4 and continue through the end of August . • Ability to qualify for a commercial driver’s license and a good driving record. • Familiarity with and support of grassroots strategies to implement renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable biofuels, and local foods. • Computer literacy and the ability to function in a basic suite of office software programs. • Ability to handle equipment such as digital cameras, power point projectors, lift displays and set up tables. • Ability to do follow up and handle details. • Ability to participate in door-to-door canvassing with local volunteers from time to time.

AREA INFORMATION: Pipestone National Monument is located adjacent to the city of Pipestone in southwestern Minnesota approximately 8 miles from the South Dakota border and 30 miles from the Iowa border. With an altitude of 1,600 feet, the area is high plains and solid farmland. Summer temperatures average in the 80’s with the high reaching 100 occasionally. Winters are cold and windy with below 0 readings and at times minus 30 to minus 40 degrees wind chill. All services are available in Pipestone or within commuting distance. Sioux Falls, South Dakota is within a one-hour drive and would provide all the amenities found in larger cities. K-12 schools are available in the city of Pipestone (population 4,500).
MAJOR DUTIES: Performance of a variety of duties required in the routine operation, maintenance and minor repairs of buildings and related facilities, including roads and trails, landscaping and grounds care.
Janitorial work to include daily cleaning of restrooms, public areas and offices including washing, stripping and waxing floors; vacuuming carpets and washing windows and mirrors. Minor carpentry repairs to building and structure components such as roofs, walls, ceilings, doors and windows. Use electrical power tools to cut, router and sand informational signs. Minor plumbing repairs include replacing washers, valves and water supply lines.
Painting and preparing surfaces; both interior and exterior wood, plaster and concrete. Minor electrical repairs and use of welding and metal cutting equipment are also frequently performed. Assist in concrete repairs to walks, trails and brick or wood structures. Use of riding lawn mowers is a part of the grounds care duties. Must be able to operate standard transmission vehicles including 4 x 4 pickup and garden tractor mower.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a temporary position not to exceed 1039 hours in a service year, but may be terminated at any time prior to end of projected season. The length of this appointment may be shortened or extended depending on work availability and funding. Tour of duty is full-time, 40 hours per week, to include possible evenings, weekends and holidays. Approximate period of employment will be April 27, 2008 to September 20, 2008. You must be a United States citizen to apply. Employee is required to wear a uniform in accordance with applicable policies and will be required to sign an acknowledgement of that condition of employment. Relocation expenses will NOT be paid. 13-14 Positions available. Seasonal Biological Technicians are needed to participate in various aspects of long-term studies of the federally endangered Southwestern Willow Flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus). Approximately 12 - 14 technicians are needed. These positions encompass the following duties: 1) conducting presence/ absence surveys and nest monitoring for the Southwestern Willow Flycatcher and Yellow-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus occidentalis) within the Rio Grande Basin of New Mexico, 2) assisting Reclamation staff in the collection of baseline data and monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental statutes, and 3) various other project specific duties (ex. Assisting with Yellow-billed Cuckoo and turtle telemetry work as funding allows and as assistance is needed). Both supervisory and crew member positions are available. Experience, although preferred, is not a prerequisite. On site training (if necessary) for all project related activities will be provided by representatives of the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).
Individuals selected for these positions would perform duties as seasonal contractors of the BOR employed by SAIC. The majority of work performed would be in the field at the locations mentioned above. Approximately 90 percent of the season would be spent in the field, and 10 percent spent performing office duties such as data entry. Technicians are required to work independently in the field during early morning (4:30 am) hours collecting field data. Working conditions are consistent with conditions found in southwestern riparian ecosystems. Seasonal biological technicians may be required to operate government owned 4x4 vehicles. Housing is at the discretion of the individual, and will not be provided by either SAIC or BOR.
Biological technicians will be required to complete Southwestern Willow Flycatcher Survey Protocol Training in New Mexico prior to conducting surveys for the Southwestern Willow Flycatcher. Training would be provided through the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and training arrangements would be made by SAIC and BOR.
Employment will begin on May 12, 2008 and end July 31- August 31, 2008
Hours and Days Per Week: 40-50 hours (5-7 days/week)
Pay Scale: $10.50 - $12.50 / hour DOE
