Freeware Computer Programs
- ACD Labs ChemSketch is extremely useful for drawing molecules, determining
angles between bonds, finding the name of the molecule, and just plain seeing what it looks like!
- Comparison of Chemistry Drawing Programs: If you'd like to try one of the other major names in the chemistry molecule drawing realm, this review covers numerous aspects and shows some examples from each program.
- ACD Labs LogP addition to ChemSketch Freeware is useful for prediction of the octanol-water partition coefficient, "which is a measure of the differential solubility of a neutral substance between these immiscible liquids and thereby, a descriptor of hydrophobicity (of the lipophilicity) of a neutral substance" according to the ACD site.
- MathCast is an excellent program for creating both math and chemical equations into user-friendly images. The program does take a little time to get used to, but once you know, it's excellent for making equations necessary for presentations and reports.
Computer Programs on Campus Computers
- Organic Reaction Animation software is on computers #12-22 in the Link Lab and in the study room next to the organic chemistry lab.
