Band Directors Institute
The University of South Dakota's Music Directors Institute is an intensive program designed to expose music teachers to the best in current and standard literature in addition to teaching methods and materials. The three-day institute will include large ensemble reading sessions, master classes and clinic sessions that focus on a wide variety of teaching subjects for band directors.

Band Directors Institute
Courses:
MUS 790: Expressive Conducting & Score Study with Jack Stamp (1 cr.)
Seminars and panel discussions with veteran master teachers and international band composer, Samuel Hazo. Topics will include technology, conducting, and trends in instrumental music education,particularly as they relate to small school band programs.
MUS 790: Pedagogical Techniques (1 cr.)
Master classes on techniques, teaching materials, and pedagogy for band, grades 5-11, to aid the band director with instructional resources for teaching band.
MUS 790: Selecting Band Literature (1 cr.)*
Interactive reading sessions which present a survey of Band classics, Christmas favorites,new releases from major publishers, and pieces from the resource, "Teaching Music Through Performance in Band", GIA Publications.

Choral Directors Institute
The University of South Dakota's Music Directors Institute is an intensive program designed to expose music teachers to the best in current and standard literature in addition to teaching methods and materials. The three-day institute will include large ensemble reading sessions, master classes and clinic sessions that focus on a wide variety of teaching subjects for choral directors. Housing will be available for participants wishing to stay on campus.

Choral Directors Institute
Courses:
MUS 793: Advanced Instructional Techniques for the Choral Music Educator (1 cr.)
Master classes and clinics focusing on teaching materials, techniques and pedagogy for music educators, grades K-12. The three-day institute will involve students in 15 hours of instruction.
MUS 793: Choral Literature for Use in the Public School (1 cr.)
Reading sessions focusing on a wide variety of choral music for public school choirs, grades K-12. Materials will include both standard works and new releases from major publishers.
MUS 793: Contemporary Ideas in Choral Music Education (1 cr.)*
Seminars and round table discussions to allow the choral director to focus on current trends in the area of choral music education.
*A written final project is required.
