All required coursework is offered online, on the Vermillion campus and on site in Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
This online Health Science degree program has three academic pathways which will qualify students for entry into graduate programs in a specific health profession, entry-level employment in health-care related positions or educational mobility for individuals who wish to advance their education.
Option I: Pre-Professional Studies:
The pre-professional option provides a foundation for study in a program leading to a medical profession. In addition to the Health Science major courses, students will take prerequisite coursework needed for entry into an undergraduate or graduate health sciences program. This pre-professional Bachelor degree in Health Sciences prepares individuals for entry into a variety of graduate programs in health care, including chiropractic medicine, optometry, and public health, etc.
Option II: Health Care Studies:
This option is for individuals who desire a career in the health care industry rather than in a clinically-based profession. The student's course of study will build a solid academic foundation in humanities, math, science and health care delivery. The student may be encouraged to earn a minor in addition to the Health Sciences major to attain individual goals and to increase job opportunities. Graduates of the Bachelor's in Health Science Health Care Studies pathway will be prepared for entry-level employment in medical or health care related fields.
Option III: Health Care Advancement Studies:
The Health Career Advancement Studies option is for individuals who are already health care workers and who hold an A.A., A.S., or A.A.S. degree who wish to advance in their current positions or in a related area of health care. After completing the Bachelor degree in Health Science, students may go on to pursue graduate work in health sciences, if desired.
