Free Blood Donation


The free and non-remunerated blood donation is the safest and most secure way to provide health services with the necessary vital quantities of blood and blood products.

The Bulgarian Red Cross recruits free blood donors; carries out health education activities; participates in preparing the different places of blood donation, i.e. visiting industrial enterprises, companies, schools, accompanying the mobile teams in blood donation actions, etc. Already there are some traditional blood donation actions entitled "Christmas gift for those in need", "Joumalists contribute to life", 'Women and mothers contribute to life".

A number of regional and municipal Clubs of Free Blood Donors have been set up. The "Association of Free Blood Donors in Bulgaria" established at BRC is working for the promotion of free and nonremunerated blood donation.

The Bulgarian Red Cross, in cooperation with the National Centre of Clinical and Transfusion Haematology, the National Centre of Haematology and Transfusion, and the Centres of Transfusion Haematology, takes part in the overall process of blood collection in the country, adhering to the principles of voluntary and nonremunerated blood donation.
