Ever since 1916 the Bulgarian Red Cross Society has been publishing some editions representing a truthful record of its activities.
The BRC Press Centre issues and sends the following to the TV stations, radio centres, daily and weekly newspapers:
- Weekly news bulletin (announcing forthcoming events);
- Monthly bulletin ("BRC News") providing summarized information;
- Quarterly-bulletin in English for the accredited foreign journalists; the other National Societies, the Federation and the ICRC.
The Bulgarian Red Cross organizes the following for the central media:
- monthly briefings on current events;
- press conferences on some special occasion;
- thematic press conferences, 4 or 5 every year, on some particularly topical issues where the general public would like to have more information.
The life of the National Society is depicted in "Bulgarian Red Cross" magazine.
The BRC also publishes its own popular science magazine titled "Zdraven (Health). It is constantly trying to extend the circle of readers by treating such subjects as the connection between health and ecology, Bulgarian curative natural resources, demographic problems of the country, study of today's risk problems, etc.
In eight of the BRC regional organizations, Red Cross units made up of journalists have been set up. A Club of Young Journalists is working at the BRC Press Centre.
Among the number of ways to promote Red Cross ideas, are the photo competition "Red Cross for Health, Humanity and Peace", the National Festival of Red Cross and Health Radio Broadcasts and Amateur Films in Hissar; the publications competition "From 8 May to 8 May", etc.
