Personalities
A number of worthy Bulgarians have associated their lives with the activities of the Bulgarian Red Cross. Here are some of them:
Archbishop Serafim (1878 - 1879) - the first President of the first Bulgarian Red Cross Society, In Sliven;
Dr. Dimitar Mollov (1879 - 1914) - one of the founders of the Chanty Society "St. Panteleimon" - the Red Cross Society of Eastern Rumelia; initiator of the foundation of a National Bulgarian Red Cross Society; member of the Central Board, and a long-standing Vice President;
Archbishop Kliment (Vasil Drumev) (1885 - 1887) - the first President of the National Red Cross Society; he was heading the organization during the Serbo-Bulgarian war in 1885 - 1886;
Petko Rachov Slaveykov (1885 - 1886) - chief representative of the Bulgarian Red Cross Society during the Serbo-Bulgarian war;
Dr. Panteley Minchovich (1888 - 1889, 1896 - 1898) - President of the Central Board;
Dr. Panayot Zhechev (1890 - 1892) - President of the Central Board;
Dr. Georgy Sarafov (1893 - 1895) - President of the Central Board;
Ivan Geshov (1898 - 1924) - the longest-standing President of the Central Board, with many different activities and initiatives;
Dr. Petar Orahovats (1900 - 1909) - among the founders of the first Red Cross Nurses' School and its first director; founder and first manager of the Red Cross Hospital;
Prof. Dr. Stefan Vatev (1902 - 1935) - a long-standing member of the Central Board, its treasurer and Vice-President; founder of the children's health advisory stations; in charge of the reception and care for the refugees from Thrace and Macedonia (1924 - 1928), as well as for the earthquake victims in Southern Bulgaria (1928);
Dr. Dimitar Kiranov (1904 - 1934) - in charge of the medical mission of the Bulgarian Red Cross during the Russo-Japanese war in Manchuria; Vice-President of the Central Board;
Stefan Lafchiev (1916 - 1938) - one of the first historians of the Bulgarian Red Cross Society; chairman and member of many public commissions; member of the Central Board; Vice-President;
Prof. Dr. Stoyan Danev (1924 - 1938) - active Red Cross worker after the Liberation; President of the Central Board;
Prof. Dr. Vasil Mollov (1924 - 1938) - member of the Central Board; President; Leader of the Youth Red Cross; founder of the Students Red Cross Society in Sofia;
Prof. Dr. Dimitar Orahovats (1935 - 1944) - member of the Central Board; President of the National Society;
Prof. Dr. Lyuben Rachev (1946 - 1949) President of the Central Board;
Dr. Petar Kolarov (1950 - 1966) - President of the Central Board;
Dr. Kiril Ignatov (1967 - 1991) - President of the Central Board;
Prof. Dr. Stoyan Saev (since 1963) - among the founders of the Water Life Saving Service of BRC; President of BRC since 1992; Vice-President of the International Life Saving Federation - Europe since its establishment in 1994.
