Introduction to Disaster Psychology
PSYC 456

This course provides a broad introduction to the field, examining theory, research and practice in disaster psychology within the American Red Cross, and in other venues. This course will be taught as an advanced seminar. It is intended primarily for students minoring in disaster response and psychology majors preparing for entry into a doctoral program. Prerequisite: PSYC 255.

This course is required for the undergraduate Minor in Disaster Response and the Psychology Major Area of Concentration in Disaster Response. Because of its content, the psychology department faculty have also agreed to allow this course to be used as an elective for the psychology major.

This course received final approval from the South Dakota Board of Regents January 21, 1999.
