Conference Model
This conference is intended to assemble an international group of experienced providers and researchers in the field of refugee mental health to share their views and expertise in the field. As the number of refugees grows worldwide, there is an increasing need for mental health professionals to become involved in serving their mental health needs. This conference is therefore also intended to educate some mental health professionals less-experienced in this field who are interested in applying their professional skills in the field of refugee mental health.
The conference will consist of five half-day sessions and a poster session. Half-day sessions will consist of keynote presentations on the session's topic with opportunities after each presentation for questions and discussion. Each session will end with a half-hour integration discussion. The five half-day sessions will address: 1) assessment issues and model-building; 2) research issues; 3) services in the emergency phase (including in refugee camps); 4) services in the post-migratory or resettlement phase; and 5) services for victims of torture. There will also be a one-hour closing session for the conference.
