admissions

Admission into all EDAD degree programs requires submission of a completed USD Graduate School application packet and supporting documentation to the School of Education Student Services office. The packet contains the following documentation:

- Application    

- $35 Application Fee

- Official transcripts of undergraduate and graduate programs


- Three Letters of Recommendation

- Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

Admission into EDAD PK-12 degree programs that lead to professional licensure (including superintendency, principalship, special education director, and curriculum director degree programs) also requires appropriate professional teaching experience.  Applicants for the master's degree programs must have completed (or be completing) at least one year of teaching under appropriate licensure and applicants for the educational specialist and doctoral degree programs must have completed (or be completing) at least three years of teaching under appropriate licensure.  Applicants not meeting these requirements may be considered for provisional admission on an individual case basis.

There are two levels of admission into EDAD degree programs - full and provisional.  Students admitted provisionally must maintain a 3.0 or better GPA during their initial 9-12 credits in order to transition to full admission status.  Requirements for admission are as follows:

Full Admission

- Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution / GPA = 2.70 or above

- GRE Scores (Verbal + Quantitative) of 900 or above for M.A. or Ed.S. / 1,000 or above for Ed.D.
    (with Verbal 500 or above) OR

- MAT Scores of 45 (scaled = 403) or above for M.A. or Ed.S. / 50 (scaled = 410 )or above for
    Ed.D.

- Three Satisfactory Professional Recommendations

Provisional Admission

- Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution / GPA = 2.50 or above

- GRE Scores (Verbal + Quantitative) of 700 or above for M.A. or Ed.S. / 900 or above for Ed.D.
    (with Verbal 300 or above) OR

- MAT Scores of 35 (scaled = 388 )or above for M.A. or Ed.S. / 40 (scaled = 396) or above for
    Ed.D.

- Three Satisfactory Professional Recommendations

(Note: International students must have a graduate degree from an accredited U.S. institution or
    submit scores from a recent TOEFL Exam)

Special Student Status

In order to begin taking courses prior to admission into a degree program, students may complete a Special Student application with the Graduate School.  Special students are not afforded graduate student status and do not belong to an academic program.  Only six credits taken as a special student may be applied to a subsequent graduate degree program.  Please consult the Graduate School applications web page for further information on Special Student status and a link to the form.
