Counseling Degree Program
The counselor education program at USD is as comprehensive as it is balanced. Nationally accredited by CACREP, our program attracts students regionally and nationally. USD is the only South Dakota institution offering both the master's and doctorate in counselor education. Students in the master's program select among school, mental health and substance abuse counseling specialization areas. The doctoral program prepares graduates to become the profession's next generation of leaders in counselor education, supervision, scholarship, and advanced counseling practice. Our schedule of late afternoon and evening classes allow for full- or part-time enrollment. Employers are likely to hire professional counselors at higher rates than the average for all occupations through 2018 (2010-2011 Occupational Outlook Handbook).
