Kinesiology and Sport Science

Kinesiology - from the Greek word kinesis (movement).  Sport Science - a multifaceted field of study that includes physical activity as well as the business environment of sport.
 

The Division of Kinesiology and Sport Science is committed to be a leader in preparing students to critically analyze issues and problems related to exercise science, sport management and physical education.  In addition, we ensure that our students are proficient in the outcome areas of practical and theoretical competence, communication, personal and professional decision making, ethical and legal practices, professional development, and self-enhancement.

Sport Management


Sport Management is a multi-billion dollar business making it one of the largest industries in the United States.  Due to our program's versatility a large number of opportunities exist in multiple areas of the sport industry, including management, marketing, accounting, finance, economics, communications, and community relations.  Sport related knowledge can bring a unique aspect not only to the sport industry, but to businesses as well. Message from the Chair


Welcome to the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Science.  We have a new undergraduate and graduate program that continuously challenges students to make connections between theoretical frameworks and practical applications.  Our division has dynamic faculty who are dedicated towards teaching with the primary aim of engaging students in the learning process.  The curriculum integrates biological and behavioral approaches using biomechanical, physiological, psychological, and sociological perspectives to understand human movement.  Internships and practicums are required for students to gain hands-on experience for future graduate or professional careers.  Our majors perpare for professional programs in the areas of exercise science, physical education teacher education, and sport management.  If you have any questions about the major or the areas of specializations, please email me @ Andrew.Shim@usd.edu.
