Training

Training to become a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader involves a commitment to one year of intensive study followed by monthly professional development sessions.  Training is conducted by a registered University Trainer and involves successful completion of 20 credit hours of post-Masters Degree graduate level Reading Recovery work.  During this time, Teacher Leaders in training work with four Reading Recovery children each day and participate in weekly classes at a licensed University Reading Recovery Training Center.  The University of South Dakota Reading Recovery Training Center is beginning recruitment for a Reading Recovery teacher and teacher leader training class for next year.  Scholarships are available and some of the Training Center fees will be waived.  Please contact the Training Center for more information.

Training to become a Reading Recovery Teacher entails a commitment to one year of intensive study followed by monthly continued professional development sessions.  Training is conducted by registered Reading Recovery Teacher Leaders or a registered University Trainer and involves successful completion of 8 credit hours of graduate level Reading Recovery work.  During the training, teachers work in their school districts in at least half-time positions as Reading Recovery Teachers and participate in weekly classes at a training site.  Teachers in training will also have half of their assigned duties outside of Reading Recovery. The University of South Dakota Reading Recovery Training Center is beginning recruitment for a Reading Recovery teacher and teacher leader training class for next year.  Scholarships are available and some of the Training Center fees will be waived.  Please contact the Training Center for more information.
