Studying away from USD allows students the opportunity to pursue coursework, service-learning, and professional experiences that will enhance their undergraduate career.  The Center for Academic Engagement works with students to identify the opportunity that best fits their academic, personal, and professional goals.  Students who have studies away from USD have found their academic interests more refined and have been better prepared for post-graduate experiences, whether in a career or graduate studies.
 
Guatemala Spring Break Experience - Study Abroad Application

Students will experience a culture much different from what they are acustomed to in the United States while stydying the impact of culture on teaching and learning.  This will be accompanied by various visits to important cultural sites of Guatemala. Estimated Cost: $2325. Includes: Roundtrip airfare, lodging, all meals, airport pick-up, Spanish language survival class, on-site transportation, school visits, cultural excursions and entrance fees, on-site support, international insurance.  Does not include:  Self-support tuition ($905.10); personal spending and dinner money ($200)

Travel, Teach, and Tour England - Study Abroad Application

Students will have the opportunity to get first-hand experience in England's primary and secondary schools, while also experiencing all the excitement England and the city of Liverpool offer!  Estimated Cost: $3050.  Includes: university housing, breakfast and lunch daily, airport pick-up, access to student gym and library, public transport pass for Liverpool, visits to local schools, cultural excursions, and international inserance.  Does not include: Round-trip airfare to Manchester, England (est. $1200); self-support tuition ($867); personal spending and dinner money ($500-$750)

This faculty led program is scheduled for Sunday, May 18th through Sunday, June 1st, 2014.  Students interested in a two week study abroad experience with a focus on teaching and learning from the School of Education.  Students may choose between a course in Foundations of Education which is a study of the history, organization, and philosophy of American education while experiencing the organization and philosophies of education in England or a course that compares the two education systems.  Students will also earn a course credit of field experience by working with mentors and their students in some of England's finest k-12 schools within a short distance from Edge Hill University located in Ormskirk, 25 minutes from Liverpool in North West England.   For more information, contact the Center for Academic Engagement, theworld@usd.edu or Dr. Kris Reed, kreed@usd.edu in the School of Education.

Greek program in the works for Summer 2014

This study abroad course will explore the evolution of Greek culture from antiquity to modern times and it's influence on Western Civilization, particularly humanism.  Students will gain an awareness of Greek civilization and the multiple connections between the culture, art, philosophy and landscape of Greece through a physical exploration of the city of Athens and surrounding areas. This experience is intended to promote a deeper understanding of culture and the increasing interconnectedness of global societies in the 21st century.
