ELDERLAW FORUM

PROFESSOR MICHAEL MYERS

           The Elderlaw Forum Website is part of a multi-media service hosted by Professor Michael Myers, who teaches Elderlaw and Health Care Law & Policy at the USD School of Law.  The Elderlaw Forum is presented in a radio format broadcast over selected radio stations throughout the state.  Also it is presented in the form of a weekly column published in South Dakota newspapers.

            Professor Myers holds a joint appointment with the School of Business where he teaches Health Finance, Health Economics and Health Law.  He combines 16 years at the School of Law with 17 years of field experience as regional counsel for the Mercy Health System, Farmington Hills, Michigan, COO of Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa, CEO of Mayo-St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, and CEO of Fairview Riverside Medical Center, Minneapolis.

            Professor Myers coordinates the Senior Legal Hotline, a public service established by the School of Law, available to persons 55 or older via the toll-free number 1-800-747-1895.  The Hotline provides information regarding Social Security, Pensions, Medicare, Medicaid Planning, Guardianships, Nursing Home Rights, Elder Abuse, Age Discrimination in Employment, and other Elderlaw issues.

            The Website is designed to be a credible source of legal, financial and health system information for seniors and caregivers.  It contains research papers written by law students enrolled in Professor Myers’ Elderlaw course.  It also provides links to other websites containing other Elderlaw information.
