Studies in Vigo
Eligibility
2.75 minimum GPA and two years of college Spanish.
Classes
Courses in Spanish grammar, composition, literature, culture, linguistics, and history. Advanced students may take classes in other disciplines.
Housing
The Office of International Relations in Vigo will assist you in making arrangements to live in your choice of dorms, hostels, or flats shared with other international students.
Costs
Monthly cost will vary according to the accommodation you choose. 500 Euros/month for housing and meals is a reasonable estimate. Your visa application (see below) must prove that you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses.
Academic Calendar
2007-2008 Semester Dates
First semester: mid September - mid February
Second semester: mid February - mid of June
You may participate in the program for the entire academic year or the second semester. The first semester is not practical if you want to return to USD for the spring semester.
Visa
You must have a visa to stay in Spain more than three months. Apply for the visa in person at the Spanish consulate in Chicago.
Health Insurance
You will not be allowed to register until you prove that you have health insurance that is valid internationally.
Local Information
The city of Vigo is in Galicia, northwestern Spain. The area is bilingual: Spanish and Galician (gallego). Gallego is the official language, but instruction takes place in Spanish.
