The Great Plains Alliance for Computers and Writing invites scholars, teachers, and administrators of all disciplines and grade levels, along with instructional technology experts and graduate students in relevant fields, to submit proposals for workshops, paper presentations, multimedia presentations, panels, and poster presentations for the 3rd Annual GPACW Conference, to be held Saturday, February 26th and Sunday, February 27th, at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. We seek proposals incorporating the theme of "Computers and Writing: A Creative Fusion." Because we are holding the GPACW Conference concurrently with the John R. Milton Writers Conference, a regional literature conference with this year's focus on Siouxland novelist Frederick Manfred, we especially welcome proposals that incorporate threads on great plains/regional writing or the sense of place in writing. In addition, we welcome presentations that open up the concept of hypertext, as a series of interconnected packets of information, that might include text, graphics, sounds, and more. Therefore, multimedia sessions/presentations involving oral history, visual art, music, dancing, etc., are encouraged.
We are also soliciting proposals in the following areas:
Use the form below to submit your abstract (50-125 words) of your presentation proposal. Or you can e-mail it to Nancy Zuercher, the conference chair, at nzuerchr@usd.edu. If you choose to e-mail your proposal rather than using the form below, please include your responses to the items on this form. Deadline for proposals: January 20, 2000; decisions by February 1, 2000.Online discussion and collaboration the MOO or other synchronous spaces as "places" for writing to evolve Native American approaches to information, writing, literature, etc. Computers and WAC (Writing Across the Curriculum) Creating connections through computers and writing in distance classes Inspiring students, teachers, and others to create interesting and effective hypertext Facilitating computer-based written communication among students Using computers and/or the Internet to help create a sense of audience in student writers The ethical use of computers/technology as related to writing
