UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Allen H. Neuharth Excellence in Journalism:
Scholarships awarded to most qualified applicants who will work on the student newpaper, the Volante.
Eligibility: High school seniors talented in print journalism.
Amount: Resident tuition, academic fees, room, board, and books. Approximate value - $32,000 over a four year period.
Terms: Two awards with four years of eligibility. Contact the Volante advisor at (605) 677-5424.
Deadline: January 15.
This scholarship has a separate application.
 
Promise Scholarship:
Insures a minimum of $1,000 per year in scholarship assistance, renewable for a total of four years. The Promise Scholarship is available to all first time, full-time students at USD who have an ACT score of 24 or greater (SAT of 1100 or greater). To maintain eligibility for the Promise Scholarship, a student must average 30 credit hours each academic year and maintain a 3.2 or higher grade point average at USD. The Promise Scholarship guarantee may be met through funding from various scholarship sources during the four years. Students receiving the Mickelson, Presidential Alumni, National Merit, Neuharth and Rawlins scholarships are not eligible for the Promise Scholarship.

John T. Vucurevich Pre-Business Scholarships:
Eligibility: Awarded to incoming Pre-Business majors based on combination of ACT/SAT and class rank.
Amount: Awards vary from $500 - $700 for freshman year.

USD School of Law Honor Scholarship Program:
Scholarships awarded to South Dakota high school seniors with excellent grades who earn a 28 or higher ACT composite score and have an interest in law.
Eligibility: Qualifying South Dakota high school seniors. Award: Provisional admission to the USD School of Law.
Amount: Dependent on funding sources. Three awards in 2003, $1000 per year, $4000 over a four year period.
Terms: Five participants with four years of eligibility.
Deadline: January 2.
 
Mickelson Scholarships:
Awarded to academically talented South Dakota applicants.
Eligibility: ACT composite of 30 or above or 1320 SAT equivalent.
Amount: Resident tuition, fees, room and board. Approximate value - $30,000 over a four year period.
Terms: Four years of eligibility. Contact USD Admissions at 1-877-COYOTES (1-877-269-6837).
Deadline: January 2.
 
National Merit Finalists:
Scholarships awarded to resident and non-resident finalists who are first-time freshmen.
Eligibility: Finalists who specify USD as first choice to the National Merit Corporation.
Amount: Resident tuition, academic fees, room and board. Approximate value - $30,000 over a four year period.
Terms: Four years of eligibility.
Deadline: January 2.
 
National Merit Semifinalists:
Scholarships awarded to resident semifinalists who are first-time freshmen.
Eligibility: Semifinalists who specify USD as first choice to National Merit Corporation.
Amount: Minumum award of $1,500 per year. $6,000 over a four year period.
Terms: Four years of eligibility.
Deadline: January 2.
 
Presidential Alumni:
Four-year scholarships covering resident tuition and academic fees.
Eligibility: High school seniors with a composite score of 27 or above on the ACT (1220 on the SAT).
Amount: Resident tuition and fees. Approximate value - $16,400 over a four year period.

Deadline: January 2.
 
Presidential Alumni Alternates:
Scholarships awarded to the alternates in the Presidential Alumni competition.
Eligibility: High school seniors with a composite score of 27 or above on the ACT (1220 on the SAT).
Amount: $1,000 for freshman year.

Deadline: January 2.
 
Rawlins:
Awarded to the highest ranking senior at the following high schools: Aberdeen Central & Roncalli; Brandon Valley; Brookings; Huron; Mitchell; Rapid City Central & Stevens; Sioux Falls Lincoln, O'Gorman, Roosevelt, & Washington; Vermillion; Watertown and Yankton.
Eligibility: Based on seventh semester class rank.
Amount: $2,200 per year - $8,800 total over four years.

Deadline: January 2.
 
School of Medicine Alumni Foundation:
Scholarships awarded to South Dakota high school seniors with excellent grades who earn a 28 or higher ACT composite score (1260 on the SAT) and have an interest in medicine.
Eligibility: Qualifying South Dakota high school seniors.
Amount: $1,000 per year and conditional admission to the USD School of Medicine. $4000 over a four year period.

Deadline: January 2.

Tribal Members:
Scholarships awarded to high school seniors who are tribal members and have demonstrated high academic potential.
Eligibility: High school seniors who are enrolled members of federally recognized Indian Tribes.

Deadline: January 2.

DEPARTMENTAL/TALENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Athletic Scholarships:

Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship Program (CSEMS)
Eligibility: Awarded to U. S. citizens, nationals, refugee aliens, or permanent resident aliens at the time of application, who are enrolled full time in a degree program in computer science or mathematics. Applicants must demonstrate both academic potential or ability and financial need (as defined for undergraduate students by the U. S. Department of Education rules for Federal financial aid, or, for graduate students as defined as eligibility for Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need.)
Amount: The maximum scholarship award will be $3125 per academic year.

Eligibility: High school seniors who plan to major in political science or criminal justice.
Amount: $1000 for freshman year.

Farber Scholars:

Margaret B. Sanger Scholarships in English:
Eligibility: High school seniors who plan to major in English.

Music Scholarships:
Eligibilty: Music majors and talented non-majors.

ROTC Scholarships:
Eligibility: ACT/SAT scores, leadership activities and personal interviews.
Amount: More than $3,000 per year.

Speech/Debate Scholarships:
Eligibility: Students interested in forensics.
