Exit Counseling

Exit Counseling is an online counseling session for borrowers of Federal Stafford Loan and/or Federal Grad PLUS loan funding. All borrowers of Federal Stafford and Grad Plus Loans must complete exit counseling when they graduate, withdraw, or drop below halftime status at the University of South Dakota.  Exit Counseling needs to be completed even if you are planning to continue your education at another institution.

Exit Counseling will explain your rights and responsibilities as a federal loan borrower. It also provides information and terms to help you make the right choices about repayment. During the counseling you will review your total federal student loan debt.
As you complete the Exit Counseling, pay special attention to rgw following:

  • Interest Rates & Payments of Interest
  • Entering Repayment 
  •  Repayment Incentives
  • Repayment Plans ·
  • Making Payments ·
  • Deferments

  • Loan Forgiveness

You can use your Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the US Department of Education to view your federal loans at National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

1.  Visit the NSLDS website
2.  Click, Financial Aid review
3.  Sign in with your Department of Education PIN

Third party loan calculators are available on line to provide an estimate of your monthly loan payment.
