Lloyd Menard worked at The University of South Dakota for over 30 years, where he taught printmaking, papermaking and drawing. He originated Frogman's Print & Paper Workshops, one of the most prestigious printmaking workshops in the world, and hosted annually each summer in the USD Department of Art.
Lloyd initiated the Visiting Artist Program in the USD Printmaking Department, which hosted the nation's top higher educational printmaking faculty each year. Lloyd has given over 70 workshops in prints and handmade paper throughout the United States and Europe.
Menard also founded Frogman's Press & Gallery in Beresford, SD. The gallery exhibits all types of media from regionally, nationally and internationally known artists. Menard has curated over 40 exhibitions since the gallery's inception in 1994. He has collaborated with over 200 artists to create editions and prints both at Frogman's Press & Gallery and at USD. His artwork has been shown in over 350 juried and invitational exhibitions and is part of over 450 university, college, corporate and museum collections.
Menard was the recipient of two national teaching awards in 2005. One of which, the College Art Association's "Distinguished Teaching of Art Award", is presented to "an artist of distinction who has developed a philosophy or technique of instruction based on his or her experience as an artist; has encouraged his or her students to develop their own individual abilities, and/or has made some contribution to the body of knowledge loosely called theory and understood as embracing technical, material, aesthetic and perceptual issues."
Menard received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
