The University of South Dakota is pleased to announce the Scholastic Art Awards for South Dakota artists grades 7 - 12. Please accept this invitation to submit artwork between September 15 - December 15, 2016.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards recognize the outstanding performance by our nation's youth, providing middle and high school students an opportunity to be recognized for their talents in visual arts. Since its founding in 1923, the Scholastic Awards have identified early talent from many students, including Andy Warhol, Philip Pearlstein, Zac Posen and Cy Twombly.
Student work is first judged at the regional level by local professionals working in the visual arts. Award recipients receive Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mentions, and award-winning works are included in a regional exhibition at USD. Works that receive Gold Key recognition at the regional level are automatically sent on to Nationals, in New York City, to be judged among other Gold Key work from across the country. At the national level, more than $3.25 million in scholarships are available to graduating seniors and twelve Portfolio Gold Medalists earn $10,000 scholarships from the Alliance.
Public, private, parochial or home-school students in South Dakota enrolled in grades 7 – 12 are eligible to participate in the Awards.
Participants must apply online. Submissions for the 2015 Awards will be accepted from September 15 - December 15, 2016. Submission forms and fees must be postmarked no later than Friday, December 15, 2016. For more information on the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, visit artandwriting.org.
