Adjunct Bassoon Instructor
Loretta Thomas is a bassoonist with the Sioux City and Northwest Iowa symphony orchestras and the Sioux City Symphony Woodwind Quintet, which spreads the word of music to the city's school children. On summer Sundays she plays clarinet with the Sioux City Municipal Band.
She enjoys her private woodwind students from the surrounding area, and she adjudicates at solo and small ensemble contests. Professional affiliations include the International Double Reed Society and the International Clarinet Association. She has been an adjunct instructor on the faculties of Northwestern, Dordt, and Morningside Colleges, all in northwest Iowa.
Loretta received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and a Master of Music degree in performance from the University of Illinois. As a member of the University of Illinois orchestra she toured Mexico, Central and South America under the auspices of the United States State Department. Following graduation she studied with Ed Gobrecht of Ithaca College, John Miller, principal bassoonist of the Minnesota Orchestra and Charles Ullery, principal bassoonist of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
