All B.F.A. majors (with the exception of Musical Theatre) enter in the Theatre Specialization. Entrance into the Acting or Design/Theatre Technology Specialization is by permission of the theatre faculty upon completion of an interview and audition or portfolio presentation.
Entrance into the B.F.A. Musical Theatre Specialization is by audition/interview as well.
A 2.50 overall grade point average in Theatre is required for graduation with a B.F.A.; however, students must maintain a 3.00 GPA in their area of specialization (Acting, Design/Theatre Technology or Musical Theatre) in order to continue in those programs in good standing.Theatre majors are required to complete the university's general education core as well as a theatre core. Due to expanded credit hour requirements for the Musical Theatre specialization, its theatre core varies from the core for the Acting, Design/Technical, and Theatre specializations.
The minor is offered to students in B.A. or B.S. programs in Arts and Sciences or Fine Arts. At least 24 hours of coursework are required, including THEA 100 Introduction to Theatre. All courses except THEA 494 Theatre Internship satisfy elective requirements for a Fine Arts minor in the College of Arts and Sciences; a maximum of four hours of THEA 495 Practicum may be applied to a minor. Students must consult with a theatre advisor when developing their schedules, as not all courses are offered every year.
The minor is offered to any student interested in the study of dance. Nineteen hours of coursework are required across four styles of dance at two levels and a choreography course. Students must consult with the Coordinator of Dance Studies in the Department of Theatre when developing their schedules, as not all courses are offered every year.
