College of Fine Arts University Art Galleries

John A. Day Gallery

Main Gallery

The John A. Day Gallery is a large modern exhibition facility with over 185 feet of linear wall space and nearly 2,900 square feet. In early 2008, a new wood laminate floor was installed with the generous support of funds from First Bank & Trust, and Susan and Doug Tuve.

The John A. Day Gallery annually features 15-18 exhibitions in two- and three-dimensional works, ranging in multi-faceted shows such as retrospectives, multi-media installations, juried competitions, invitationals, and student exhibitions. Gallery programming reflects the diversity of the University Art Galleries' mission; the schedule annually blends exhibitions showcasing the University's Permanent Collection, supporting the Art Department program, and featuring art and artists not only from the Northern Plains, but from across North America.

Aside from art exhibitions, the gallery space also hosts receptions, lectures, art auctions, group photos and various art educational events and functions for the Fine Arts programs and for the USD community and the City of Vermillion public. The John A. Day Gallery is open to the public free of charge between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends by special appointment (closed holidays).
