IFC Recruitment Rules

General

  1. Recruitment is dry. Alcohol is prohibited from any recruitment function. Also, there are to be no alcohol containers of any sort in plain sight. Recruitment publicity shall contain no reference to alcoholic beverages or distributors. A violation of either of these stipulations will result in a maximum fine of $2500 and may result in further penalties.

  2. No fraternity, or any of its members, may recruit prospects or potential new members (pnm) in any establishment where alcohol is served. A fine of $300 and any other penalties will be levied on any violators of this rule.

  3. All IFC officers will be considered neutral when they are acting in an official capacity of IFC. The IFC President and Recruitment Chair shall remain completely disaffiliated during open recruitment activities.

  4. No pledge/associate cards may be signed over the summer or winter break by a new University of South Dakota student.

  5. All recruitment violations will be heard by the IFC Judicial Board.

  6. For the year of 2008: Chapters will be required to hold recruitment functions during the second full week of school in part of a Greek Life advertised "Recruitment Week."  This will make provisions for chapters to hold traditional 'rush' style recruitment functions.  During the next year, as IFC sees fit, the system of a structured recruitment week of events will be phased out.  During these structured recruitment weeks, potential new members are allowed at chapter houses from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, unless already signed with a chapter.  Chapters are encouraged to hold typical 'rush' style functions in the evenings to encourage potential new members to visit.

  7. No scholarships shall be awarded or promised until one week after members have signed a pledge/associate card.

  8. Holding recruitment functions beyond the nightly deadline (time limit) during Recruitment is prohibited. Prior to and during the specified recruitment week, houses will not be allowed to have unsigned members, or potential new members, in their house past 9:00 PM or prior to 9:00 AM to allow for a period away from recruitment and offer members adeguate time to focus on academics.

  9. All USD rules and policies will be followed. If any of The University of South Dakota's rules are violated, the USD Judicial Coordinator will oversee the judicial process.

  10. Slander, directed toward other Greek chapters, and communicated to potential new members, is strictly prohibited.

  11. Continuous open bidding begins the first day of the semester.

  12. Chapter sign-in sheets are due to the Greek Advisor's office every week.

  13. No "dorm storming" allowed due to University Solicitation Policy.

  14. All Potential New Members must visit three chapters before accepting a pledge/associate card.

RECRUITMENT RULES PRIOR TO RECRUITMENT KICK-OFF

    1. Chapters will be encouraged to hold recruitment functions at any time throughout the year, as long as they are in accordance with all University policies & rules, and IFC rules, including alcohol use.

    2. Fraternity social functions after 9:00 PM must not include 1st semester USD students. There will be a $300 fine per undergraduate male present at this function.

    POTENTIAL NEW MEMBER RULES/REQUIREMENTS
    1. All PNM's must complete a fraternity recruitment registration form via online or at the chapter houses.

    INFRACTION PROCESS

If an infraction occurs, one must report the incident to the IFC President or Greek Life Advisor within 24 hours after the alleged violation is known and not more than 10 days after it has occurred. Please fill out the violation report form.
