Health Services USD Early Head Start has a full-time Health Coordinator, with many years experience working in Head Start. She is a LPN and is a great resource for all families and community members. The Health Coordinator's role is to assist families with keeping healthy and safe so that they can learn and grow to their fullest potential. A large part of this is to ensure that each child receives well-child health care on a regular schedule, including health and developmental screenings and well baby/well child doctor visits, dental examinations, and age-appropriate immunizations. Also, EHS wants to make sure the expectant mothers in the program receive prenatal health care and education. One of the first steps in the Early Head Start program is to ensure each family has a primary health care provider. The Health Coordinator can assist in this process. The program can also assist families in applying for Medicaid and Chip. The health coordinator provides a monthly newsletter with health and wellness information. She also organizes trainings and workshops on health topics for staff and families. Nutrition Services USD Early Head Start has a Nutrition Coordinator. She plans the menus for the socialization events, completes nutrition screenings, and provides staff and families with information and training on nutrition topics.
Developmental Services USD Early Head Start has an Education/Disability Coordinator. She has many years experience working with Head Start. She supervises the Family Advocates who complete the weekly home visits. She ensures that families receive a developmental screening and works closely with other agencies in making developmental referrals as appropriate. Early Head Start staff work closely with the area birth to three service providers. The Family Advocates attempt to complete joint home visits and also serve as an IFSP/IEP team member when appropriate. USD Early Head Start is a home based program. Family Advocates complete weekly home visits. During the home visits they provide information regarding child health & development and guide parents in developmentally appropriate activities.
