Home Base Program

Home Visits

USD Early Head Start is a Home Base Program.  A Family Advocate (home visitor) meets with each family for 1 1/2 hours each week at a regularly scheduled time.  Family Advocates provide information regarding child development & health, and they guide parents in developmentally appropriate activities.  Expectant families receive home visits for prenatal education and support.

Play and Learn Sessions (P.A.L.S.)

Families meet two times per month for a group socialization experience.  PALS provides an opportunity to interact and build relationships in a specially designed environment.  At each PALS, meals are prepared and enjoyed family style.

Service Area

USD Early Head Start serves the counties of Clay, Union, Lincoln, and Turner in Southeast South Dakota.  We currently serve 55 infants, toddlers, and expectant families.   Each Family Advocate has a home base unit comprised of between 10-12 families.
