Bachelor of Science in Nursing
On October 13, 2011, USD Nursing was granted the authority by the SD Board of Regents (BOR) to offer a pre-licensure four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in Vermillion, Sioux Falls, and Rapid City.
The University of South Dakota will offer a four-year BSN degree starting fall 2012. This program is in response to the State and national need for wider access to advanced degrees in nursing to ensure that students are well-educated and prepared to meet the increasingly complex demands of the healthcare professions.

The University of South Dakota is now accepting University applications for students interested in general courses/prerequisites toward the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in Sioux Falls and Vermillion, South Dakota. Apply online now!
- Vermillion and Sioux Falls: Students may apply to the BSN nursing major for fall 2013 admission. Students who are currently enrolled in pre-requisite courses through USD, as well as transfer students, should contact an advisor to have their transcript evaluated.
- Rapid City: Students may apply to the BSN nursing major for fall 2014 admission. Students who are currently enrolled in pre-requisite courses through USD, as well as transfer students, should contact an advisor to have their transcript evaluated.
Academics
The bachelor degree in nursing (BSN) consists of 120 credits that include theory, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), a licensing exam to become a Registered Nurse (RN). Undergraduates are initially admitted as pre-nursing students and must apply to the bachelor's degree in nursing program.
